Spade was christened David Wayne when he was born on 22 July 1964 to Judith and Sam Spade. His mother was a magazine editor and writer, while his father was a sale representative. Spade also has two brothers, Bryan and Andy, out which the latter is more popular, as he is the spouse of Kate Spade, the designer, and the CEO of Kate Spade New York.
David went to Scottsdale Community College and had a brief stint at the Arizona State University. He earned a degree in Business and during his stay at the university he did standup comedy for the university's comedy show, Farce Side Comedy Hour. Then he went on to do standup comedy at the Greesy Tony's Pizza on Monday nights at Arizona during the mid 1980s. However, while he was trying to break into the comedy scene, Spade still had to earn money to survive. So, he worked as a busboy, valet parker, employee in a skateboard shop and also took part in a skee ball championship.
After getting help from his friend Dennis Miller, who is also a comedian, Spade managed to become a cast member as well as a writer for Saturday Night Live. It is here that his trade mark sarcasm and doing impressions of famous people, such as Michael J Fox and Brad Pitt got noticed.
When Spade broke into the movie scene, it was not good. His movies Joe Dirt and Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star did not do very well in the box office. He also acted with Chris Farley in movies, such as Tommy Boy and Black Sheep. However, while they were planning to start a third movie, Chris Farley passed away due to drug overdose. While Spade got many offers to have his own television shows, he refused all of them to work in an office sitcom entitled Just Shoot Me! For his role as a sarcastic receptionist in the sitcom, Spade was nominated for an Emmy and two Golden Globe Awards. Spade has even lent his voice to Beavis and Butthead for many episodes and produced a television series of his own entitled Sammy in the year 2000. Today, David Spade is seen on television in the sitcom entitled Rules of Engagement.
One of the strangest facts about David Spade is that he is extremely sensitive to light. This may come as a surprise considering that he is an actor and hence, should be used to performing in front of bright lights on sets. However, this sensitivity has led to permanent eye damage and he has to keep the light turned down indoors and also wear a hat to protect himself.
