He was born on 26 August 1980 to Kit Culkin and Patricia Brentrup in Manhattan, New York. However, he was brought up in Yorkville. As Culkin's parents were Roman Catholic, they brought up their son in the same faith. In addition, the Culkin family had six more children, four boys and two girls. While Culkin was small, the large family lived in a small apartment, with the mother working as a telephone operator, while the father was a sacristan in a Catholic church in the neighborhood.
Culkin went to Catholic school for around five years, before moving to the Professional Children's School. In addition, he also learned ballet at the School of American Ballet. Culkin showed his acting prowess at an early age, when he started working on stage for Bach Babies at the age of 4 at the New York Philharmonic. He also essayed many other roles on stage, television serials and films. However, it was with Home Alone in 1990 that Culkin achieved fame and international recognition. The he went on to do the sequel in the year 1992, which was again a big commercial success. In addition, Macaulay acted in Wish Kid, a Saturday cartoon aired in the morning and was also the host for Saturday Night Live in the latter half of 1991.
The films that Culkin acted in, namely The Good Son, Getting Even with Dad, Richie Rich and The Pagemaster just were reasonably successful and did not achieve the success that the two Home Alone series and My Girl achieved. It was only in the year 2000 that Culkin came back into the acting scene with a stage play entitled Madame Melville. He also did a guest appearance for the popular sitcom Will and Grace in the year 2003. The same year, he acted in the film Party Monster, which saw Culkin essaying the role of a drug user and a murderer. He has also provided his voice for Robot Chicken and published a novel titled Junior, which is supposed to semi-autobiographical.
Culkin is quite private about his personal life, but he got married to Rachel Miner in the year 1998, but got separated in 2000 and then divorced her two year later. The same year, 2002, he started dating Mila Kunis. The couple was together until 2011, but separated on amicable terms.
However, it was his friend with legendary Michael Jackson that made more headlines than other movies of his. The two were good friends and spent many vacations together. Culkin was also known to have stayed at the home of Michael Jackson. He was the godfather to Jackson's children Michael Prince Jr and Paris. While Jackson was being tried for child abuse, it came out that Culkin shared Jackson's bed many times and denied being molested or touched by Jackson. He refuted all allegations and said that they were ridiculous. When Michael Jackson's funeral was held on 3 September 2009, Macaulay Culkin was there to pay tribute and show his respect to his friend.
