Halle attended an all white school and as a result she had to face a lot of racism. However, this did not break her. Instead it sparked a desire in her to excel in everything she did. She took part in extracurricular activities, was named the class president, was the school's newspaper editor and was also the head cheerleader of her high school.
Even as a young girl, Halle's beauty could not be hidden. She won many beauty pageants in the early part of the 1980s, such as Miss Teen Ohio and Miss Teen America. In the Miss USA competition held in 1985, Halle was the first runner up. When she joined the Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland, she started out with studying broadcast journalism, but soon changed her mind and discontinued her studies before she could earn her degree. Instead, she decided to concentrate on entertainment, and this prompted Halle to relocate to first to Chicago and eventually to New York City. In New York, Halle started working as a catalog model.
In the 1990s, Halle began to get roles in television serials. Her first sitcom was the Living Dolls in 1989, but it did not run too long. Thereafter, she worked for a year in Knot's Landing. She got a break in Hollywood when she was cast as the junkie girlfriend of Samuel L. Jackson in Spike Lee's movie, Jungle Fever. Thereafter, she acted in The Last Boy Scout with Bruce Willis and then in Boomerang with Eddie Murphy in 1992. She went on to act in Losing Isaiah in the year 1995 and created ripples when she was the first African American to act as Queen Sheeba in Solomon and Sheeba. Her first film as a lead actor was Executive Decision in 1996. In 1999, Halle acted in Introducing Dorothy Dandridge, which won her a Golden Globe and an Emmy for the best actress in a television movie. Of course, all Halle Berry fans will not forget her role in the X-Men film series. Then there is the morbid drama, Monster's Ball. She garnered a lot of critical acclaim for her acting in this movie, which won her a Golden Globe nomination and an Oscar. She was the first African American actress to have ever won an Oscar for the best actress category.
Although Halle Berry has achieved success in her career, the same cannot be said about her personal life. She was romantically involved with Wesley Snipes and then went on to marry David Justice, an outfielder with Atlanta Braves, in the year 1993. However, the marriage did not last, and the couple parted ways in 1997. She then got engaged to Eric Benet, a jazz musician and got married to him in 2001. That marriage too was not destined to be forever and the couple divorced in 2005. Then in 2005, she got friendly with Gabriel Aubry, a male supermodel from Canada. And, on 2008 March, Halle and Aubry had a daughter together. While the couple is not married as yet, they are hoping that they will soon have another child in their family. As Halle Berry fans, we wish the couple a happy and loving life, and hope that Halle continues to enthrall us with her acting prowess.
