While Jordan was a toddler, his family relocated to Wilmington, North Carolina. Here, Jordan first attended the Emsley A Laney High School where he showed that he was good at baseball, basketball and football. During his sophomore year, Jordan tried out for the school team, but was considered too short at 5 feet 11 inches.

This did not put off Jordan from the sport. Instead, he joined the junior varsity team and became an overnight sensation by scoring 40 points in many games. Also, during this time he grew another 4 inches and this allowed him to join the varsity team. In his senior year, he joined the McDonald's All American Team, where he once again performed very well.

Jordan earned a basketball scholarship to the University of North Carolina where he studied cultural geography. In the year 1982, he scored the winning jump shot against Georgetown to allow his team to win the NCAA Championship. In his junior and sophomore years, he made it to the NCAA All American First Team. In 1984, one year before he could graduate from university, Jordan joined the NBA draft. He was selected by the Chicago Bulls as the third pick. In his fist year at the NBA, Jordan went on to win the Rookie of the Year award and was even selected for the All Star Game. In 1986, Jordan returned to his university to earn his degree.

In 1984, Jordan was also selected as the member of the US Olympic basketball team. The team won the gold medal. Then in 1992, he was selected once again for the team for the Olympics held at Barcelona, and once again the team won the gold medal.

While Jordan's second season was full of injuries, he still managed to score over 3,000 points in one season. The next season, Jordan was felicitated with the MVP award, an award that he went on to win four more times in 1991, 1992, 1996 and then again in 1998.

Jordan had a major role to play in the changing fortune of the Chicago Bulls. The team made it to the Eastern Conference finals in the year 1990 and then went on win their first ever NBA championship the next year after beating LA Lakers. Everyone knew that Jordon was a powerful and agile player on the court and he was also well-known for his leadership qualities. This helped Jordan win many lucrative endorsement deals with big companies, such as Nike.

In the year 1992, the Bulls went on to win their second NBA championship after defeating Portland Trailblazers and the following year, 1993, they once again dominated the championship. However, Jordan had other plans in mind, as he lost his father after he was shot by a teenager in an attempted robbery towards the end of the 1992-93 season. So, he retired from basketball and decided to begin playing baseball with a minor league team called Birmingham Barons. He did this for a year. But his passion for basketball could not be curbed and in March 1995, Jordan was back playing for the Chicago Bulls. The same year, Jordan also acted in a part animation movie, Space Jam and shared screen space with Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck.

The following season, Jordan once again helped his team win the NBA championship against Utah Jazz and the feat was repeated the following year, in 1998. However, after this season, Jordan once again retired, but came back to the game as co-owner and president of operations for the Washington Wizards. However, in 2001, he gave up these roles to once again play and this time he played for 2 seasons for the Wizards, before retiring for good in the year 2003.

In the year 2006, Jordan went on to buy some shares of the Charlotte Bobcats and he became the managing member of the basketball operations for the team. During this period, his marriage to Juanita, his wife, also came to end after 17 long years. The couple had got married in September 1998, and had two sons and one daughter. They got divorced in December 2006. In 2007, Jordan again made headlines when his son was selected to play basketball for the University of Illinois.

In 2009, April, Jordon was inducted into Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. He claimed that while this was one of the biggest honors of his career, it also reminded him that his basketball career had come to an end.
