He was born in Butter County in California and initially went to school at the Vose Elementary School and then went to the Whitford Middle School in Beaverton, Oregon. However, while he was in middle school, Aaron used to play baseball in the Little League, but after he started going to Pleasant Valley High School, he switched over to football, and the school team’s quarterback for 2 years, where he set many records.
Aaron broke many records in high school in football. However, as he just 5 feet 10 inches tall and 165 pounds heavy, he did not get the attention most quarterbacks get. He was considered undersized for Division I games. He just got one offer from Illinois, a walk on, but he declined it. He even considered stopping football and continuing studies to become a lawyer. However, then he suddenly got an offer to play college football at the Butte Community College located in Oroville. In his first season, he made 28 touchdowns and made his team rise to number two in the national ranking. It was while he was playing here that he was discovered by Jeff Tedford, the head coach of the Bears. Tedford had come to recruit Garrett Cross, who was Aaron’s team mate. Tedford was surprised that Aaron was not recruited by another highly placed college team. However, since Aaron had high SAT scores, he was allowed to seek transfer after a single year, instead of waiting for the normal 2 years.
Once Aaron was transferred, he immediately started playing as a quarterback in the 2003 season. In his second year, he helped the Bears reach a record of 7 to 3. During that time he was the starter for the team. He also won the game MVP when playing against Virginia Tech at the Insight Bowl.
He was even selected for the Rose Bowl and his team, the Bears, managed to get a playing spot for the Holiday Bowl. However, his team lost to Texas Tech. It was in his senior season that Aaron decided to try his luck at the NFL Draft. He was hoping that he would get selected early in the draft, as he had an excellent record as a junior. The San Francisco 49ers had the first overall pick, but did not show any interest in Aaron. This was probably due to the head coach, Mike Nolan, who believed that Aaron’s personality would not be suitable for his strong personality. By this time, Aaron was 6 feet 2 inches, but was still considered having average height; and the teams in the draft wanted to fulfill more important positions than selecting a quarterback. Then, finally Green Bay Packers selected him. It is reported that he was given a 5-year contract of approximately $7.7 million. This also included a guaranteed sum of $5.7 million.
The 2005 season was not what Aaron expected it to be. He hardly got any playing time, as the Packers used their regular quarterback, Brett Favre. This trend continued in the 2006 season too. Then in November 2006, when Aaron was filling in for Brett Favre, who was injured, he ended up fracturing his left foot, and that was the end of the season for him. However, he did make swift recovery and was ready for the 2007 season. However, in 2007, Brett Favre continued to stay with the Packers, and once again Aaron was relegated to the second quarterback.
In 2008, Brett Favre announced that he was retiring and this was good news for Aaron, as the quarterback position opened up for him in the 2008 season. However, then Favre decided to cut short his retirement and returned, but the Packers traded him off to the New York Jets. And, Aaron was made the starting quarterback for the team. His first game as a starter was against the Minnesota Vikings, which the Packers won 24-19. The same year, 2008, Aaron signed a 6-year contract with the Packers for a whopping $65 million.
