While he was in college, Stallworth played football for Alabama A and M and he was picked by the Steelers in the fourth round of the 1974 draft. He went on to play 6 AFC championships and 4 Super Bowls. Stallworth’s receptions were a record for the franchise until they were broken by Hines Ward in the year 2005. In addition, he also played in 4 Pro Bowls and was elected as the Steeler’s MVP two times.

When he was selected in the NFL draft, Stallworth was the 82nd pick of the year. In his rookie year, Stallworth was an understudy, and it was only in the second season that he became a starter, a position that he kept for rest of his playing career. Of course, there were health issues that prevented him from playing and starting the game, and this caused him to miss around 44 games in the regular season.

In Super Bowl XIV, the Steelers were 19-17 behind the LA Rams. When just 12 minutes of the game were remaining, Bradshaw threw a long pass to Stallworth, who made no mistake with it. He did a 73-yard touchdown and this allowed the Steelers to win their 4th world championship. The catch was considered to be a fantastic one and it even got Sports Illustrated to put Stallworth on the cover of their next issue.

Stallworth was not just a great football player, he was also an astute businessman. In the year 1986, he started a company called Madison Research Corporation. The company was responsible for giving engineering and information technology services to the government and other private clients. Today, the company has over 650 employees, and has offices all over the United States, with the headquarters located at Huntsville, Alabama.

In the year 2002, Stallworth received the ultimate recognition in football. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
