The language used by Bob Ong is extremely conversational and all his work has some amount of comedy in it. However, the way the books are written, they encompass the Filipino culture and tradition. Hence, Filipinos love his work.

So far, Bob Ong has published around 6 books, and more than quarter million copies of the books have been sold. It is believed that when Bob was working as a web developer and a teacher, he created a website called Bobong Pinoy. The name of the website means Dumb Filipino in Tagalog and is used fondly to call someone who is diminutive. It is believed that someone tried to contact the author using the name of the website thinking that it was his name. And, this gave rise to the pseudonym Bob Ong. The website was awarded the People's Choice Philippine Web Award for weird humor in the year 1998. However, it was take off the air after the President Joseph Estrade was removed from office due to the Second People Power Revolution.

Many people get confused by the name Bob Ong and the Filipino Chinese writer Charlson Ong. However, according to an account that Bon Ong has in Stainless Longganisa, he claims that he is not Filipino Chinese and that he took the family name Ong after the website Bobong Pinoy.

Some people claim that Paolo Manalo, a Filipino poet, is Bob Ong. However, Manalo has denied this claim. Other people claim that Eros S Atalia, who won the Carlos Palanca Memorial Award and is currently working in the University of Santo Tomas is actually Bob Ong. This is because Atalia has published 2 books and the writing style is quite similar to that used by Bob Ong.

However, until it comes out who Bob Ong really is, we will never know the man (or woman) behind this name. Neither will we be able to find out any information about Bob Ong's life.
